Description

Opening the Heart: Joy of Living 2

Date/Time
8 weeks: Mondays, September 11 – October 30, 2023
6:30 - 8:30 PM Central Time

In this meditation workshop we will learn how meditating on loving-kindness and compassion can open our hearts to the world around us and relax the self-centered tendencies that lead to anxiety, dissatisfaction, and suffering. Cultivating loving-kindness and compassion helps us to see the basic goodness that all beings share. By relating to others in an open-hearted way, we bring peace to the mind and develop a sense of confidence and purpose. This, in turn, naturally brings harmony to our relationships and enables us to work with challenging situations more effectively. The schedule for this workshop includes video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche and short presentations on the key points of meditation practice by Tergar Facilitators Stephanie Wagner and Amy Roth, as well as guided meditations and discussion.

The workshop is open to anyone who has already participated in the “Calming the Mind: Joy of Living 1” course and has completed 50 hours of meditation practice, or those who have several years of meditation practice and would like to deepen their practice. If you have any questions about whether you meet the prerequisites please write to minneapolis@tergar.org.

About the Facilitators:

Stephanie Wagner had been meditating for several years prior to meeting Mingyur Rinpoche in 2009. Immediately she felt a sense of connection to Rinpoche’s message that anything in daily life can be used as an opportunity to wake up. Stephanie is a board-certified health coach with a Master of Arts in Integrative Health and Well-Being Coaching from the University of Minnesota and is a trainer and program specialist with Healthy Minds Innovations.

Amy Roth is a long time meditator and has been a practice leader of the Tergar Meditation Community in Chicago for over 10 years. She presents essential meditation practices in a direct and accessible way that makes incorporating mindfulness and compassion into our modern lives simple, if not easy. Her work is inspired by the neuroscience research around the benefits of meditation for individuals, families and the larger community. She is a psychotherapist and mother living in Chicago.
