Calming the Mind: Joy of Living 1 Workshop (MSP-V-J1-230206)

02/06/2023 06:30 PM - 03/27/2023 08:30 PM CT

Description

Meditation enables us to transform all experiences, even difficult emotions and painful thoughts, into sources of joy. The modern world has become fascinated with the practice of meditation. With all the hype and glossy images on magazine covers, it would be easy to think that meditation is about sitting in the right posture, using a special technique, or forcing the mind to be calm or relaxed all the time. But the real power of meditation isn’t in the method. It’s in shifting our perspective.

The key to this shift in perspective is awareness. In this 8-week workshop series, we will learn to transform our experience by exploring sensations, thoughts, emotions, and even awareness itself as supports for meditation.

This program offers step-by-step instructions that will benefit those new to meditation and inspire those who have an existing practice. The schedule for this workshop series includes video teachings by Mingyur Rinpoche, presentations by Tergar Facilitators Stephanie Wagner and Amy Rothas well as guided meditations and discussion. It is suitable for people of all faiths, as well as both beginning and experienced meditators.

For those of you who have taken Calming the Mind before, we have some exciting news! The workshop includes:

  • New videos from Mingyur Rinpoche
  • New guided meditations
  • Tools to make meditation a habit in your daily life including a free app to track your sessions and support your practice

About the Facilitators:

Stephanie Wagner had been meditating for several years prior to meeting Mingyur Rinpoche in 2009. Immediately she felt a sense of connection to Rinpoche’s message that anything in daily life can be used an opportunity to wake up. Stephanie is a board-certified health coach with a Master of Arts in Integrative Health and Well-Being Coaching from the University of Minnesota and is a trainer and program specialist with Healthy Minds Innovations.

Amy Roth is a long time meditator and has been a practice leader of the Tergar Meditation Community in Chicago for over 10 years. She presents essential meditation practices in a direct and accessible way that makes incorporating mindfulness and compassion into our modern lives simple, if not easy. Her work is inspired by the neuroscience research around the benefits of meditation for individuals, families and the larger community.  She is a psychotherapist and mother living in Chicago.
