Opening the Heart: Joy of Living 2

Dates/Times
6 weeks: Wednesdays, April 7, 2021 to May 12, 2021
6:30 pm - 8:00 pm Central US Time

Live Online Course with Kasumi Kato and Scott Anderson

In this meditation workshop we will learn how meditating on loving-kindness and compassion can open our hearts to the world around us and relax the self-centered tendencies that lead to anxiety, dissatisfaction, and suffering. Cultivating loving-kindness and compassion helps us to see the basic goodness that all beings share. By relating to others in an open-hearted way, we bring peace to the mind and develop a sense of confidence and purpose. This, in turn, naturally brings harmony to our relationships and enables us to work with challenging situations more effectively.

The schedule for this workshop includes video teachings by Yongey Mingyur Rinpoche, short presentations on the key points of meditation practice by Tergar facilitators, as well as guided meditations and discussion.

This workshop is open to meditators who have previously attended a Calming the Mind: Joy of Living 1 meditation workshop or a Joy of Living 1 retreat, and meet the practice requirements. If you come from another tradition and feel you may meet the pre-requisite meditation study and practice requirements, please contact us.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS:

Kasumi Kato grew up in northern Japan. She has received extensive training in meditation and yoga. She is a Tergar facilitator and oversees Tergar’s activities in Japan, in addition to translating for Mingyur Rinpoche. She has two Master's degrees and currently teaches Japanese at the University of Wisconsin. In her spare time, she loves to travel and spend time meditating in retreat.

Scott Anderson has practiced yoga and meditation since he was a teenager. Since meeting Mingyur Rinpoche in 2010, he has dedicated himself to the practice and dissemination of Rinpoche’s teachings as one of the founding leaders of Tergar Madison. Scott has a Master's degree in Kinesiology, and is a PhD student at the UW-Madison, where he studies mindfulness interventions for college students and adolescent athletes.
